Tianjin
co-host city for 2008 Olympic football preliminaries
 
Tianjin is one of the six co-host cities of 2008 Olympic Games. It will hold the football matches at the Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium.

Tianjin is the gateway to Beijing, only about 100 kilometers southeast to the Chinese capital. It is one of the country's biggest industrial centers and one of the key ports. Known as Diamond of the Bohai Gulf, the coastal city is the largest seaport of North China and the economic center across the Bohai Sea Region.

Preparations for the Olympic include repair of roads, improvement of landscape, launch of environment-friendly buses, expansion of Tianjin airport, construction of Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Fast Railway, the urban greening system and the Olympic venue. is situated to the southwest of the city's downtown area. Covering a total of 966,000 square meters, the Tianjin Olympic Center consists of the competition section, the comprehensive section and the accommodation section, with an investment of US$880 million.
